"Just one of the vital services we provide is Talking Point, our online safe space, where a trouble shared can become a trouble halved. People accessing Talking Point can learn from each other's experiences, share their frustrations and their knowledge of local services. Talking Point lets people living with dementia share and learn from each other in a safe online space. Just £50 means 312 people can access this site any time, day or night."

CHARITY CHOICES 2024

The Wales Air Ambulance Charity is funded by the people of Wales. They rely entirely on charitable donations to raise £11.2 million every year to keep the helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road across Wales.
The on-board consultants and critical care practitioners are highly skilled and carry some of the most pioneering medical equipment in the world. They can deliver blood transfusions, administer anaesthesia and undertake emergency operations at the scene of the incident, before flying the patient directly to specialist care.

By funding the right research into the most promising treatments, we get closer to a cure every day. Until then, we're here for everyone affected by Parkinson’s.”

A new project is Breathing Space which offers respite and short breaks for carers of those living with MS in Wales. They have social support with Men’s Shed, choirs, online quizzes etc.

The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. Powered primarily by kind donations, our search and rescue service has been saving lives for nearly 200 years.
Also RNLI lifeguards have been patrolling beaches since 2001. They share safety advice, provide first aid to those who need it, and save the lives of those who get in trouble in the water.
The vast majority of RNLI people are volunteers - ordinary people doing extraordinary things - supported by expert staff, all working together to help communities at home and abroad save lives.

Sandville is a self-help charity, supporting people with life limiting and life changing conditions.
Their centre which has a lounge, a café, an exercise room and a hydrotherapy pool overlooks the Porthcawl coastline. 2024  Shortlisted resolutions:

Dental Health Matters

There is a chronic shortage of NHS Dentists and people are suffering health issues as a result. The NFWI calls on the Government to increase investment in the training and retention of dentists and to review the current inadequate NHS contracts in order to ensure everyone can access an NHS dentist wherever they live.

Impacts of poor housing conditions

Poor housing can have a deleterious effect on human health and wellbeing, safety and quality of life, and can disproportionately affect the most vulnerable groups in society.
The NFWI calls on the UK Government to boost housing standards and regulations, increase funding for housing renovations, increase the supply of affordable and secure housing and strengthen collaboration with local authorities, housing associations and other relevant stakeholders to develop strategies that address local housing challenges.

Say ‘no’ to gambling advertising

Harm caused by excessive gambling is a global problem. Some countries are already addressing this by banning advertising. The NFWI calls on members, the government, regulators, the NHS, educationalists, and gambling charities to work together towards achieving a complete ban on gambling advertising. This will reduce gambling harm, save the NHS money, protect family relationships, and decrease the number of suicides – around 400 per annum at present.

Improving Outcomes for Women in the Criminal Justice System

There is an urgent need to radically reform decision-making in respect of women in the criminal justice system and in particular, pregnant women and women with children. We urge cross-government collaboration to deliver on the 2018 female offender strategy by setting goals, robust governance, and performance measures to reduce the number of women who have committed non-violent offences from being imprisoned.

The Committee would welcome your ideas for fundraising for next year’s fete. It might seem early, but, depending on our choice, some things need quite a few months preparation. We may even need to get started before Christmas!

It would be good for the Committee to have several ideas to discuss!

Whitchurch Fete Saturday 1st July.

What a lovely day we had ; the sun was shining and lots of people came along to the Common.

The big news is that we raised a magnificent £400!!  It is our main fundraising event for our charities so that is a good lift towards what we will be able to donate to them.  Thank you very much to all our members who nurtured plants, helped with the arrangements and worked on the day with transportation, setting up, serving on our plant stall and clearing up afterwards.
